Time and Charge Rates on a Job
For admins and office staff · Updated 25 Sep 2026
The Labour tab on the job page lists every time entry on the job: who, when, the time type, the hours worked, the hours charged, what it cost and what it's charged at, and where it stands.
Adding Time
- Add Time Entry records time after the fact.
- To clock someone on now, pick the technician and the time type, then choose Start Timer. The running timer shows beside it with Stop Timer for when they finish.
- Time technicians clock on their phones lands here too, and so does time added on Timesheets.
- To delete an entry, choose the bin at the end of its row, or Delete Entry… inside the entry. You're asked first. Who can delete which time is the same as on Timesheets.
Time added in the office goes in submitted, ready to approve with the technician's week. Time a technician clocks on their phone stays a draft until they submit their week. See Clock Your Time and Submit Your Week.
Which Rate Time Is Charged At
Each entry is priced when it's saved, from the first of these with a rate for its time type:
- This job's own rate, under Job-Specific Charge Rates.
- The customer's rate, on the customer's Charge Rates tab.
- The technician's charge rate, times the time type's charge multiplier.
- Otherwise the company default rate, times the same multiplier.
A job or customer rate is charged as typed: the time type's multiplier isn't applied on top. The time types, their multipliers and their minimum hours are set with Labour Rules on Timesheets. When a time type has a minimum, the hours charged can be more than the hours worked.
Setting Rates for One Job
- On the Labour tab, under Job-Specific Charge Rates, choose Add Rate Override.
- Pick the time type and type the rate per hour.
- Choose Save Rates. Discard Changes puts back the rates already saved.
Saving re-prices this job's time that isn't invoiced yet, in the same save. Only the charge changes: hours, cost and approval stay as they were. Time already on an invoice, and a timer still running, are never touched.
If a rate on the job, its customer or a technician changed after time was entered, the tab says how many entries are priced at the old rates and offers to re-price them.
A technician can re-price only time they entered themselves. The tab says how many entries only the office can re-price.
Time on an invoice can't be changed or deleted from the job.
