Set Up Your Business in Settings

Open Settings from the gear at the top right. The Business opens with two lists: Set Up the Business, the setup checklist in the order a new business works through it, and People and Access, which covers who can sign in and what they see.

Every row says where it stands, and a row that still needs something says what's missing. The count under the Settings heading, such as 3 to Set Up, picks out those rows when you choose it. Choose a row to open it. On a computer the other rows stay down the left, so you can move between them.

Work Through the List

1. Companies: choose New Company and enter the business you trade as. The row is done once the company your documents print from has its ABN, BSB and Bank Account Number: the ABN prints on every document, and the bank details on every invoice.
2. Branches: choose New Branch and add at least one. Documents print the newest branch's details.
3. Trade Packs: switch on the trades you work in. See below.
4. Job Statuses and Types: rename the statuses, choose their colours, and tick Counts as Open for each one that means work is still to do. The order is the order a job moves through. Add your own with Add Status and Add Job Type, then choose Save Job Statuses and Types, which saves both lists together. Until you save, jobs use the built-in statuses.
5. Invoice Review: with Review Every Invoice Before It Is Approved on, every invoice goes from Draft to In review to Approved before it can be sent. With it off, invoices go from Draft straight to Approved.
6. Email Sending: send from your own domain. See Send Email From Your Own Domain.
7. Legal Documents: put your terms of trade and quotation terms in force. See Your Terms of Trade and Legal Documents.
8. Billing: choose a plan before the trial ends. See Your Plan, the Trial and Starting a Subscription.

Trade Packs

A trade pack adds what's particular to one trade: its compliance registers, licence types, default job types, pricebook categories and any calculation engine. Jobs, scheduling, quoting and invoicing work the same for every trade. The packs are HVAC & Refrigeration, Electrical and Plumbing & Gas.

Switch a pack on or off with its switch, and at least one has to stay on. Switching a pack on also adds its starter forms and checklists, which you can edit afterwards; anything you already have is left alone. Until you choose, Deployr runs on HVAC & Refrigeration, and Save This Choice keeps it as it stands.

Finding One Setting

Type in Find a Setting at the top of Settings to go straight to a setting by name, across The Business, Connections and Automations & Data.
